Karmah Trading & Services (KTS), operating from Doha since 2004, designs and installs Off-Grid Solar Systems for locations in Qatar where connection to the KAHRAMAA electricity grid is unavailable, impractical, or prohibitively expensive. Our off-grid solutions provide reliable, autonomous electrical power for remote worker camps, desert farms, border posts, construction site offices, telecommunications towers, environmental monitoring stations, and off-grid residential estates.
Qatar's rapid development of infrastructure, agriculture, and security facilities in areas beyond the urban grid has created strong demand for standalone power systems. Traditional diesel generators have been the default solution, but they carry significant disadvantages: fuel logistics to remote locations, high operating costs (QAR 1.50–2.50 per kWh), noise, emissions, and the environmental risk of fuel storage and spillage in sensitive desert and coastal environments.
KTS off-grid solar systems combine monocrystalline solar panels, a lithium battery energy storage system (BESS), a hybrid inverter/charger, and an intelligent energy management controller. The system generates electricity during the day, stores excess energy in the battery bank, and delivers AC power to the connected loads around the clock. An optional diesel or gas generator can be integrated as a backup for extended cloudy periods, creating a hybrid system that provides 100% power availability with 80%+ solar fraction.
System sizing starts with a detailed load analysis conducted by KTS engineers. We assess the total daily energy demand (kWh), the peak power requirement (kW), and the autonomy days (number of days the system must operate without sunshine). For Qatar, we typically specify 2 to 3 autonomy days, reflecting the region's consistently high solar resource.
Battery storage uses lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) cells rated for 60°C operating temperatures and 6,000+ charge/discharge cycles at 80% depth of discharge. This equates to a 15+ year battery service life — three to four times longer than lead-acid alternatives and justifying the higher initial investment through lower total cost of ownership.
Solar panels are mounted on ground-frame structures (concrete ballasted or driven pile) or rooftop rails, oriented due south at a tilt angle of 22° to 25° for maximum annual yield in Qatar's latitude (25.3°N). Panel cleaning schedules are recommended to mitigate soiling losses, which can reach 15%+ in Qatar's dusty environment without regular maintenance.
KTS provides complete turnkey off-grid solutions: site assessment, load analysis, system design (using PVsyst and Homer Pro), equipment procurement, installation, commissioning, and remote monitoring setup. Our ISO 9001:2015 certified processes ensure reliable, professional delivery.
