Basketball is one of the most popular indoor sports in Qatar, played in school physical education programmes, amateur leagues, and professional training centres. However, dedicated basketball courts are a luxury in a market where real estate is valuable and most indoor halls serve multiple sports and community functions. Retractable basketball systems solve this by providing full FIBA-compliant basketball infrastructure that folds away in minutes.
KTS supplies two primary categories of retractable basketball systems. Wall-mounted systems feature a steel arm that hinges at the wall and folds upward to park the backboard and ring flush against the wall. The arm extends to provide regulation overhang distances of 1.225 m (FIBA standard) or 1.8 m (NBA training). Operation is via electric motor with manual backup, and deployment takes approximately 30 seconds.
Ceiling-mounted systems are suspended from the roof structure and retract vertically to the ceiling when not in use. These systems are preferred for halls where wall space is occupied by spectator seating, storage, or other equipment. The ceiling-mounted frame includes an integrated shot clock mount and backboard padding. Motorised winch operation allows single-operator deployment in under 60 seconds.
Backboards are manufactured from 12 mm tempered glass (FIBA Level 1) or 15 mm acrylic (FIBA Level 2/3). Steel-framed backboards with padding are available for school and community use where safety is prioritised over professional aesthetics. All backboards measure 1800×1050 mm per FIBA specifications.
Rings are spring-loaded breakaway types rated for loads up to 135 kg, preventing damage from dunking or player contact. Ring height is fixed at 3.050 m (regulation) with adjustable options available for youth training (2.600 m minimum).
All KTS retractable basketball systems comply with FIBA Equipment and Venue Standards and EN 1270 (basketball equipment safety). Structural calculations for wall and ceiling mounting points are provided by our engineering team, ensuring compatibility with the building's structural capacity.
